Welcome back sweet scent of freedom. Welcome back Woodstock, you little swashbuckler.
Brant Bjork has come to revive your spirit! From the opening guitar shenanigans of his first live album “Europe ’16″, recorded in Berlin, one can sense a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix that heads to new spheres. This is controlled madness between trippy and doomy, smooth and sludgy. Kyuss- and Fu Manchu legend Brant Bjork delivers lush Stoner Rock with balls of steel, winged by vivid solo guitars and his creaking whiskey tinged voice. In sobriety psychedelic melodies raise to huge groove monsters. The air feels dry from the dust; the inner eye witnesses the setting sun morphing the desert sand into a glowing sea. “Europe ’16″ lives from exquisite Desert Rock grade A. Live and pure.

Japanese Krautrocker-enthusiasts Minami Deutsch are boarding the spaceship to planet Europe, where they will reside between September 14th and October 29th. Heavy jams and exploration of alien lifeforms are to be expected, all in the name of cosmic brotherhood and motorik-obsession. Lose yourselves in nebula dust at the following space-docks :
In just a couple of years, fledging Tokyo-based imprint GuruGuruBrain–founded by members of local psychedelic rock band Kikagaku Moyo–has managed to do what a lot of local independent labels have found a challenge: shine a light on the Asian underground and start generating interest in some choice local acts internationally.
Not because they launched a clever marketing strategy or had some kind of special connections, it’s just because the music they’ve chosen to release so far has been good–really good–and they’ve been able to meet demand for it as word leaked out overseas.
The fourth release from the GuruGuru stable is a debut self-titled LP from friends (and, apparently, housemates) Minami Deutsch. With vinyl/CD distribution secured in the US through Captcha and in Europe via the unimpeachably cool Cardinal Fuzz, and surfing the crest of the current wave of interest in psychedelic and vintage krautrock, the timing of this release could not have been better.
This album is excellent, and essential listening for lovers of ’70s motorik in the vein of Neu!, Harmonia, and Kraftwerk.
Stripped back to the absolute essentials, each song locks squarely in the groove and begins unfurling its color-soaked fractals. There is not a single bum vibe on this album, yet it’s made by human hands and not by machines. It’s how each song breathes and how it grows in the soil that frees it from the cold, mechanical “motorik” stereotype.
At times dreamy and evocative and at others electrifying in its energy, MinamiDeutsch is the kind of record you stay with from beginning to end.

CHURCH OF MISERY (Japan)
After Touring-Break for 3 years, Japan all time heaviest band CHURCH OF MISERY from Tokyo is finally ready to hit the road in europe for 2,5 weeks In October to celebrate their serial killer-riff-thunderstorm…!
For the last two decades, Church Of Misery have sawed off only the finest in uncompromising doom. The revered Japanese masters are lifelong practitioners of the genre, honoring and extrapolating upon the Sabbathian legacy from which all detuned life springs forth. Church Of Misery’s sixth and latest album, And Then There Were None, is another blood-soaked trip through homicidal hell, with songs inspired by killers both infamous and obscure. But while the murderous inspiration for the tunes remains the same, the cast of characters is almost completely new.
In 2014, Church Of Misery bassist and mastermind Tatsu Mikami was forced to assemble a new lineup for the band’s follow-up to 2013’s Thy Kingdom Scum. His chosen few reside on American soil: Blood Farmers guitarist Dave “Depraved” Szulkin, Earthride drummer Eric Little (ex-Internal Void) and Repulsion frontman (and former Cathedral bassist) Scott Carlson on vocals. “All the musicians involved in this album are undoubtedly the best in this scene,” Tatsu enthuses. “So you will enjoy listening to all play tastefully.”
And Then There Were Nonemarks Tatsu’s first Church Of Misery endeavor with foreign musicians. He, Szulkin and Little met in Maryland to rehearse the bassist’s riff-ready material. “It was a challenge because there was not much time to make this record—only two weeks,” he explains. “One week for rehearsals and then one week to record all materials. Before I arrived in Maryland, I was a little bit nervous. But after the first rehearsal, I knew it was gonna be a good album.”
Opener “The Hell Benders” takes its title from Django director Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 spaghetti western, which was itself inspired by the notorious Bender family murders that blackened frontier Kansas in the 1870s. “Make Them Die Slowly” takes its lyrical cues from the 1940s killing spree of John George Haigh, a.k.a. “The Acid Bath Killer,” who disposed of wealthy Londoners in a vat of sulfuric acid. Another British serial killer takes a nefarious turn in “Doctor Death,” which exhumes the more recent—but no less lethal—exploits of disgraced physician Harold Shipman. “Both Haigh and Shipman were suggested by Tatsu,” Carlson explains. “Shipman is sort of a British Jack Kevorkian, except that he left out the one small detail of victim’s consent!”
Carlson wrote all the lyrics for And Then There Were None, which also marks the first time he’s done vocals for a full-length album since Repulsion’s genre-inventing classic,Horrified. “I was afraid to listen to it for a while because I haven’t recorded a full album of vocals in almost 30 years,” he says. “Once Tatsu had mixed everything I listened back and was able to enjoy it. The riffs are so strong on this record that even my 50 year-old vocal chords couldn’t bring it down! I’m very pleased to be a part of this and I can’t wait for Church of Misery fans to hear it!”
Support : DIRT FORGE (DK)

Okt

Let’s keep this simple: Columbian Neckties is the Band I’ve had the most personal experience with, as a label. On top of that, they are one of the few Garagepunk-outfits, who can simultaneously count Names such as Tim Warren (Crypt Records),Alfred Bradford (Green Hell) as well as Lars Krogh (Bad Afro) amongst their die-hard Fans, apart from myself that is, of course! Enough reason to be straight-up subjective when it comes to this band and that’s exactly my point here.
To me, Columbian Neckties is Europe’s finest Garagepunk band and definitely in the top 5 internationally. No one shreds the guitar faster than Henrik and no one comes close to Jeppes vocal delivery. Everything just seems to fit perfectly with the Columbian Neckties.
This is Punk – Punk and not Rock in disguise. Garage will always be Garage and that means getting your hands dirty.
Their shows never fall short from being total revelations and are cramped with energy to an extent, that you could illuminate the Autobahn at night, if we were able to feed that energy into our power circuits. Most of all, Columbian Neckties are real! Not just Students jamming around, No Dressmen, no ‘we’ll-do-whatever-the-ind
This is what counts and sticks to both brain and heart.

UFOMAMMUT (ITA/Neurot Recordings/Supernatural Cat)
Ufomammut is a power trio formed in Italy in 1999 by Poia, Urlo and Vita, a lineup that has remained stable since.
The trio have developed a sound characterised by lengthy songs centered on repeated heavy riffs coupled with droning vocals and the use of sound effects and synths.
8 is the Ufomammut’s 8th album, comprised of 8 tracks that flow into each other without interruption.
This flow can also be seen when you tip 8 horizontally, thus it morphs into the leniscate from algebraic geometry – ∞ – a plane curve that meets at central point – or more commonly known as the infinity symbol.
A continuous stream of movement reflective of the uninterrupted nature of the album but also the continued togetherness of the essential elements of the band – Urlo, Poia and Vita – since the beginning of the band’s history in 1999. ∞ tipped vertically sees us return to the number 8.
It must be stressed there is no singular pronunciation of the title, 8 is to be spoken in every language e.g. “eight” in Engish, “otto” in Italian, “acht” in German, huit in french and so on.
8 is a continuous flux of music, a singular entity, which can be defined in micro measurements by its 8 satellite songs.
Each track expands upon the preceding song, unfolding into an exceedingly dense and malevolent journey, resulting in this being Ufomammut’s most extreme venture yet, with no permittance for breathing space in the 48 minutes.
Ufomammut’s status as one of the most potent, powerful and artistic contemporary doom artists in existence continues to captivate the masses, and the band’s worldwide grasp grows wider with each release.
Ufomammut’s live show is supported by the internationally acclaimed video and graphic art of Malleus, a rock artists’ collective of which Poia and Urlo form a part, who conjure the entirety of Ufomammut’s visual impact.
USNEA (US/Relapse records)
Portland doombringers USNEA spawned in late 2011 from the cerebral minds of Justin Cory (Guitar & Vocals), Johnny Lovingood (Guitar), Zeke Rogers (Drums) and Joel Williams (Bass, Vocals). The quartet has proven to be a seismic level force of destructive creativity with a massive yet meditative sound, masterfully crafted songwriting, and a clear yet non-derivative influence from doom legends such as Disembowelment, My Dying Bride, Neurosis and YOB.
LATE NIGHT VENTURE
